History

Barcelona opens the 2026 Tour de France, and the Catalan capital is no stranger to the race. The Grand Départ has rolled out of Spain before, but a finish on the city's own streets, under the gaze of Montjuïc and the Sagrada Família, gives this opener a stage all its own.

Montjuïc has hosted decisive moments across cycling history, most memorably as the backdrop to the 1992 Olympic road race. Its ramping climb and fast technical descent reward riders who can read a city circuit, and the finishing kilometres here promise a nervous, punchy run to the line.
